No  store-level jobs will be affected, but some regional offices will be closed, a Target spokesperson told NBC News. <\/p>\n<div id=\"taboolaReadMoreBelow\"><\/div>\n<p id=\"anchor-5e95fa\" class=\"body-graf\">The memo provided to NBC News came from chief stores officer Adrienne Costanzo and chief supply chain and logistics officer Gretchen McCarthy. They wrote that Target will be \u201cconsolidating the number of store districts to streamline our field structure and better empower our store directors to meet guests\u2019 needs.\u201d <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-b9fd7e\" class=\"body-graf\">Target said the organizational changes are intended to allow it to redirect investment into its stores, including additional labor and hours, along with new guest experience training for employees. <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-d0c81d\" class=\"body-graf\">Store workers will not see any changes to their starting wages, which, depending on the location, are typically $15 to $24 an hour, according to a spokesperson. <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-087481\" class=\"body-graf\">Target, which has about 2,000 U.S. stores, has ceded market share to rivals like Walmart and Amazon in recent years. <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-9c5848\" class=\"body-graf\">Inflation has weighed on shoppers, and customers have voiced frustration over cluttered stores and inconsistent merchandise that strayed from the retailer\u2019s identity as a polished, affordable-chic chain.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-c0cd4d\" class=\"body-graf\">In recent years, customers have also challenged Target over its responses to controversial issues, from diversity, equity and inclusiveness initiatives to the recent turmoil in Minneapolis. <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-53ed3e\" class=\"body-graf\">In an effort to reconnect with customers, Target last year rolled out what it called its &#8220;10-4 program,&#8221; internal training that encouraged employees to make eye contact, smile and exhibit welcoming behavior when they were within 10 feet of customers \u2014 underscoring its renewed focus on service as a differentiator.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-04a263\" class=\"body-graf\">Monday&#8217;s memo said the changes are expected to help employees in stores \u201cwork more efficiently and with more focus.\u201d <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-26bb48\" class=\"body-graf\">Target added that affected workers have already been notified and will be supported with resources and benefits. <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-69d333\" class=\"body-graf\">The restructuring is one of the first major changes from Target&#8217;s new CEO, Michael Fiddelke, who took over the top job at a challenging moment. <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-fffa3e\" class=\"endmark body-graf\">The company reports fourth-quarter and full-year earnings on March 3.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Target will restructure parts of its organization and eliminate about 500 roles, company executives wrote Monday in an internal memo, as the retail giant looks to rebuild its customer base and return to growth.
