Some versions of ChatGPT will soon come with advertisements, OpenAI announced<\/a> Friday. <\/p>\n

The chatbot owner said that in the next few weeks, it will begin \u201ctesting ads\u201d for the free and low-cost subscription “Go” versions of ChatGPT in the United States for logged-in, adult users. <\/p>\n

Its \u201cPlus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise subscriptions\u201d won\u2019t be subject to advertisements, the company said in a statement. <\/p>\n

Users can expect ads \u201cat the bottom of answers in ChatGPT when there\u2019s a relevant sponsored product or service based on your current conversation.\u201d <\/p>\n

Open AI said ads will be \u201cclearly labeled\u201d and won\u2019t be included under \u201csensitive or regulated topics,\u201d including \u201chealth, mental health or politics.\u201d <\/p>\n

The addition of advertising to OpenAI\u2019s chatbot has the potential to drive new revenue for the company. <\/p>\n

OpenAI has committed to spend about $1.4 trillion over the next eight years to build out its AI infrastructure, according to a November X post<\/a> by CEO Sam Altman. <\/p>\n

He said the company, which is not publicly traded, expected revenue \u201cabove $20 billion\u201d this year. Fulfilling OpenAI\u2019s future spending commitments, he said, \u201crequires continued revenue growth.\u201d <\/p>\n

According to OpenAI, advertising will \u201cnot influence\u201d the answers the chatbot provides to user questions. <\/p>\n

OpenAI\u2019s announcement comes days after Google unveiled a new feature in its AI mode that allows retailers to target consumers who are using the AI shopping tool with personalized offers.<\/p>\n

OpenAI also announced<\/a> Friday that ChatGPT Go, its lower-cost subscription, will now be available users worldwide. It will cost $8 per month for U.S.-based subscribers. <\/p>\n
