{"id":4657,"date":"2025-12-11T21:47:19","date_gmt":"2025-12-11T21:47:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/marketsfortress.com\/index.php\/2025\/12\/11\/u-s-trade-rep-shifts-timeline-for-chinese-soybean-purchases-blames-a-discrepancy\/"},"modified":"2025-12-11T21:47:19","modified_gmt":"2025-12-11T21:47:19","slug":"u-s-trade-rep-shifts-timeline-for-chinese-soybean-purchases-blames-a-discrepancy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/marketsfortress.com\/index.php\/2025\/12\/11\/u-s-trade-rep-shifts-timeline-for-chinese-soybean-purchases-blames-a-discrepancy\/","title":{"rendered":"U.S. trade rep shifts timeline for Chinese soybean purchases, blames a &#8216;discrepancy&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"anchor-9dc0b7\" class=\"body-graf\">U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said Tuesday that a previously released timeline for China to meet its commitment to buy American soybeans had been extended from the end of this year to the end of the &#8220;growing season.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-c6d2d4\" class=\"body-graf\">The apparent shift came to light during Greer&#8217;s testimony before the Senate Appropriations Committee in Washington, when Deb Fischer, R-Neb., asked him to &#8220;walk me through how you are monitoring China&#8217;s purchases.&#8221;  <\/p>\n<div id=\"taboolaReadMoreBelow\"><\/div>\n<p id=\"anchor-e1b1c8\" class=\"body-graf\">&#8220;What is the timeline for the 12 million-metric-ton purchases?&#8221; she asked. &#8220;Is that timeline not by the end of this calendar year?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-f1dbe4\" class=\"body-graf\">Greer replied, &#8220;It is for this growing season.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-2dfcf3\" class=\"body-graf\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ers.usda.gov\/topics\/crops\/soybeans-and-oil-crops\/oil-crops-sector-at-a-glance\" target=\"_blank\">Agriculture Department\u2019s website<\/a> says most soybeans in the United States are planted in May and June and harvested in September and October. <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-ee67b0\" class=\"body-graf\">The trade representative\u2019s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-b320d7\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cThank you for highlighting that,&#8221; Greer said to Fischer. &#8220;We\u2019ve heard from a couple of farmers \u2014 they want to know about that discrepancy. And it is a discrepancy.\u201d <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-199ad2\" class=\"body-graf\">Greer&#8217;s &#8220;discrepancy&#8221; is between the timeline he gave and what the White House announced in a news release Nov. 1, shortly after Chinese President Xi Jinping and President Donald Trump met. <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-78975a\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cChina will purchase at least 12 million metric tons (MMT) of U.S. soybeans during the last two months of 2025,&#8221; read the statement, which was<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/fact-sheets\/2025\/11\/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-strikes-deal-on-economic-and-trade-relations-with-china\/\" target=\"_blank\"> still posted on the White House website late Tuesday<\/a>.  <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-995ee8\" class=\"body-graf\">Beijing will \u201calso purchase at least 25 MMT of U.S. soybeans in each of 2026, 2027, and 2028,\u201d said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/fact-sheets\/2025\/11\/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-strikes-deal-on-economic-and-trade-relations-with-china\/\" target=\"_blank\">the fact sheet<\/a>, which was titled \u201cPresident Donald J. Trump Strikes Deal on Economic and Trade Relations with China.\u201d <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-9e0471\" class=\"body-graf\">On Monday, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/business\/economy\/trump-farmers-aid-package-china-rcna247988\" target=\"_blank\">Trump announced a $12 billion aid package<\/a> for farmers, which included $11 billion in direct payments.
