The Russell 2000, which tracks smaller companies, tumbled 1.4%. <\/p>\n<div id=\"taboolaReadMoreBelow\"><\/div>\n<p id=\"anchor-4808a0\" class=\"body-graf\">Gold, a traditional safe haven for investors when markets are volatile or uncertain, dipped about 1.6%.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-cd94a0\" class=\"body-graf\">Within the S&amp;P 500, technology was the worst-performing sector.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-9ebda3\" class=\"body-graf\">The largest publicly traded company in the world, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/NVDA\" target=\"_blank\">Nvidia<\/a>, dropped nearly 4%. With a market value of more than $4.85 trillion, Nvidia lost $200 billion from its market value.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-cccbd2\" class=\"body-graf\">Crypto also faced steep losses, with bitcoin plunging below $100,000 for the first time since June. The digital currency was down more than 7% as investors fled riskier assets like digital currencies.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-8505c8\" class=\"body-graf\">International markets traced a similar path as benchmark indexes in Germany and France both fell nearly 1% on Tuesday. Asia Pacific markets also slid, with Australia and Hong Kong stock indexes falling around 1% during Tuesday trading. Stocks in Japan fell nearly 1.8%.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-82b0e9\" class=\"body-graf\">Earnings from defense darling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/quotes\/PLTR?qsearchterm=pala\" target=\"_blank\">Palantir <\/a>appear to have helped trigger jitters among traders. The company\u2019s shares, which have soared by more than 160% this year, tumbled by more than 8% despite the company\u2019s quarterly results beating Wall Street\u2019s earnings and revenue expectations.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-33cae2\" class=\"body-graf\">Michael Burry, an investor known from \u201cThe Big Short\u201d and who rose to fame over a bet against America\u2019s housing market in 2008, also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-11-04\/burry-discloses-puts-on-nvidia-and-palantir-after-bubble-warning\" target=\"_blank\">disclosed large bets<\/a> against Nvidia and Palantir on Monday night.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-8188f7\" class=\"body-graf\">Comments made overnight by the CEOs of two major investment banks also drew traders\u2019 attention.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-8f0d4d\" class=\"body-graf\">Goldman Sachs\u2019 David Solomon and Morgan Stanley\u2019s Ted Pick warned that stocks could be poised for a pullback. <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-41d529\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cWe should welcome the possibility that there would be drawdowns, 10% to 15%, that are not driven by some sort of macro cliff effect,\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/finance\/morgan-stanley-ceo-warns-market-heading-towards-correction-2025-11-04\/\" target=\"_blank\"> Pick said at Hong Kong\u2019s global financial leaders summit<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"styles_inlineImage__FvnTh styles_medium__MEKii\" id=\"anchor-6931f1\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/media-cldnry.s-nbcnews.com\/image\/upload\/t_fit-760w,f_auto,q_auto:best\/rockcms\/2025-11\/251104-david-solomon-mn-1415-fa916b.jpg\" alt=\"David Solomon, chief executive officer of Goldman Sachs Group \" height=\"1056\" width=\"1584\"><figcaption class=\"caption styles_caption__TCewG\" data-testid=\"caption\"><span class=\"caption__container\" data-testid=\"caption__container\">Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon speaks Tuesday at the Global Financial Leaders&#8217; Investment Summit in Hong Kong.<\/span><span class=\"caption__source\" data-testid=\"caption__source\">Lam Yik \/ Bloomberg via Getty Images<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p id=\"anchor-8a1301\" class=\"body-graf\">Solomon, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/finance\/morgan-stanley-ceo-warns-market-heading-towards-correction-2025-11-04\/\" target=\"_blank\">speaking at the same conference<\/a>, said that \u201cthere are things that will change sentiment and will create drawdowns, or change the perspective on the growth trajectory, and none of us are smart enough to see them until they actually occur.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-c701a6\" class=\"body-graf\">But fears over stratospheric AI valuations have been the talk of Wall Street for most of the year. As those stocks continue to soar in value, they represent ever more of the value and momentum of key indexes like the S&amp;P 500. <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-431649\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cAI related stocks have accounted for 75% of S&amp;P 500 returns, 80% of earnings growth and 90% of capital spending growth since ChatGPT launched in November 2022,\u201d a recent analysis from J.P. Morgan Asset Management found.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-45ce62\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201c\u200b\u200bThe Magnificent 7 comprise over 30% of the S&amp;P 500 \u2014 a level of concentration exceeding even that of the dot-com bubble,\u201d Erwan Jacob, macro analyst with LSEG, wrote in a note Tuesday. The \u201cMagnificent 7\u201d companies are Apple, Amazon, Alphabet, Microsoft, Nvidia, Meta Platforms and Tesla.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-d43062\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cIt remains unclear whether such expenditures will be met with corresponding revenues,\u201d Jacob noted.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-046ef5\" class=\"body-graf\">Still, this year the S&amp;P 500 is up more than 15% overall, while the Nasdaq Composite, which more closely tracks the biggest tech firms, remains in the green by 20%.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-f31cae\" class=\"body-graf\">Yet experts say that a pullback is not always cause for concern.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-86e910\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cOn average, the [S&amp;P 500] experiences three drawdowns of between 5% and 10% each year,\u201d Jeff Buchbinder, chief market strategist at LPL Financial, wrote during a short sell-off in August 2024. \u201cCorrections of 10\u201320% are also quite common, having occurred once per year on average.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-69573f\" class=\"endmark body-graf\">Meanwhile, the dollar index, a measure of the strength of the U.S. dollar against a basket of foreign currencies such as the yen, pound sterling and euro, was slightly higher, rising to its best level in about three months.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The global stock rally hit a wall Tuesday, dragged lower by artificial intelligence and tech companies.
