Impacted employees may be eligible to continue receiving a significant portion of their regular wages or salary, plus benefits.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-9d8912\" class=\"body-graf\">The news comes amid declining consumer interest and demand in electric vehicles after the Trump administration rescinded a $7,500 tax credit for buyers. <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-d62d42\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cWe anticipate resuming operations cell production at both sites by mid-2026,\u201d the company continued.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-996366\" class=\"body-graf\">GM said many employees at \u201cFactory ZERO\u201d in Detroit may be eligible for supplemental unemployment benefit pay and those affected at its Ultium plants \u201cmay be eligible to continue receiving a significant portion of their regular wages or salary, plus benefits.\u201d <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-79f657\" class=\"body-graf\">Just weeks ago, the company<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/business\/autos\/electric-vehicle-ev-slowdown-rcna237652\" target=\"_blank\"> took a $1.6 billion hit<\/a> from changes related to its electric vehicle plans. <\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-79ace0\" class=\"body-graf\">\u201cFollowing recent U.S. government policy changes, including the termination of certain consumer tax incentives for EV purchases and the reduction in the stringency of emissions regulations, we expect the adoption rate of EVs to slow,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/investor.gm.com\/node\/27881\/html\" target=\"_blank\">GM said in a filing on Oct. 14<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p id=\"anchor-2b25f3\" class=\"endmark body-graf\">Ford has also delayed some of its EV rollout plans, and sales have plunged at Tesla, the biggest EV maker in the United States.
